Billy Sims and Joique Bell to Appear at Taste of Troy

February 19, 2014

Legendary Lions running back Billy Sims has a presence in Troy with his Oklahoma-based Billy Sims Barbecue restaurant chain which opened last spring in Troy on South Blvd., just east of Crooks Road. Sims, a No. 1 draft pick who played for the Lions from 1980 through 1984, will be on hand at this year’s Taste of Troy with restaurant owner Dave Harris. This is the first year for Billy Sims Barbeque at the event which benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Troy.

"Billy Sims Barbecue and kids are something I’m very excited about,” Billy Sims said. "I am so excited to be able to help the Boys & Girls Club of Troy. We’ve got a fun, family oriented, tailgate kind of atmosphere at our restaurant and some of the tastiest and most tender brisket and ribs around. It’s truly a celebration of good food and good football – a place to kick back and enjoy yourself.”

Current Lions running back and Boys & Girls Club of Troy supporter Joique Bell will also be on hand at the Taste of Troy to meet and talk to attendees.

"My ties to Michigan run deep, being born and raised in this state and playing both college and pro football in Detroit,” Joique Bell said. As a professional athlete, I take great pride in having the opportunity to reach out to young people in this community and encourage them to follow their dreams and become good people with positive attitudes and a willingness to help others."
