Elks Hoop Shoot Competition at BGCT on Dec. 2

November 18, 2013

Boys & Girls Club of Troy members will have an opportunity to "compete, connect and succeed” with the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Program, funded by the Elks National Foundation.

The Elks National Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest for youth ages 8-13. On Monday, Dec. 2 starting at 3:00 p.m., volunteers from the Clawson-Troy Elks Lodge No. 2169 will be at the Club to conduct its local competition, the first step in the process of determining a national champion. Participation in this local contest is free of charge.

Winning contestants on the local level move on to a district competition, and from there winners can advance through state, regional and national competitions.

One boy and one girl from each age group will win a national title at the finals in Springfield, Mass. The six national champions have their names inscribed in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest highlights the Elks commitment to America’s youth, and is the largest and most visible youth activity sponsored by Elks Lodges. More than 1.5 million youth participated in last year’s competition, which provides a character-building experience and teaches participants valuable lessons in respect and sportsmanship.

Parents or guardians of participants need to complete the Hoop Shoot registration form. For more information, contact Elks Lodge No. 2169 Hoop Shoot director Ron Malendowski at (586) 703-7380.
