Boys & Girls Club of Troy Launches Smart Snacks Program

February 1, 2016

This month the Boys & Girls Club of Troy is launching a new initiative called Smart Snacks, which will be woven into the Club’s existing daily Snack Shack food and concessions program. Smart Snacks provides more health-conscious selections (fruit, whole grain, low-fat dairy products, etc.) to give Club members an opportunity to make a more nutritious choice at snack time.

Smart Snacks is not without extrinsic incentives, however. Each Smart Snacks menu item is worth one point, and periodically when members reach a pre-determined collective point total they will be rewarded with a fun and unique group activity, the first of which is a game of Staff vs. Members Dodgeball.

Smart Snacks is also structured to be very affordable, as all items on the menu cost either 25 or 50 cents.

The Smart Snacks initiative is intended to empower Boys & Girls Club of Troy kids and teens to make healthy decisions that help support physical fitness, inspire positive food choices and build mental and emotional well-being. Today, with 30 percent of young people considered obese or overweight, the need to provide this type of support is critical.
