Taste of Troy "Spirit of the 60s" Event a Huge Success

Sunday’s 23rd Annual Taste of Troy fundraiser was definitely a Spirit of the 60s taste fest based on the mouth-watering food prepared by Troy’s finest restaurants and food establishments. The weather was even a bit warmer now that February was behind us! 
 
The event, emceed by WDIV Local 4 meteorologist Andrew Humphrey, offered samplings from 31 area restaurants as well as fabulous live and silent auction items.

Participating restaurants were judged by a panel of food connoisseurs in the Critics’ Choice categories, and attendees voted for their favorites in the People’s Choice categories.

Top honors for Critics’ Choice:
  • Best Appetizer/Soup/Salad – Bonefish Grill (Classic Ceviche)
  • Best Casual Entrée – Cafe Sushi (Surfin’ California Roll)
  • Best Entrée – Sy Thai (Outta Sight Orange Duck)
  • Best Dessert – Achatz Handmade Pie Company (Mini Almond Croissant)
  • Best Beverage – Smashburger (Salted Carmel Haagen-Dazs Milkshake)
  • Best Display – Tim Hortons (60s psychedelic booth with the VW bus)  

Winners under the People’s Choice:
  • Best Appetizer/Soup/Salad – McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks (Mad Men Shrimp Cocktail with Sriracha Remoulade)
  • Best Casual Entrée – Maggiano’s Little Italy (Rockin’ Rigatoni D)
  • Best Entrée – Cedar Grille (Chicken Lemon Oregano)
  • Best Dessert – Zoyo Neighborhood Yogurt (Blow Your Mind Frozen Yogurt)
  • Best Beverage – Tim Hortons (Delicious Tim Hortons Coffee)
  • Best Display – Granite City (60s Booth with the Magic VW Bus)

A Special Recognition Award was presented to PNC Bank for their generous commitment as the 2015 Major Sponsor.

Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy an afternoon of fun and great food while supporting a great cause. Also special thanks to our emcee WDIV Meteorologist Andrew Humphrey who has supported the Boys & Girls Club of Troy for nine years! Thanks to his hard work, the Live Auction brought in record profits again this year. We also had a very popular caricaturist, Darrell Swift, donating his time to add to the fun.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Troy at 3670 John R, is a non-profit youth development organization that provides educational and recreational activities, in addition to mentoring programs, to more than 1,200 children, ages 6 to 18, in the tri-county area.
