The Boys & Girls Club of Troy is a key partner in the Michigan Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs statewide health initiative. “Healthy Michigan Today” is focused on raising fitness levels and fostering healthy decision making and connecting Boys & Girls Club members and their families with local health care providers.

Periodically throughout the year, the Boys & Girls Club of Troy will hold BeFit Health Festivals at its location of 3670 John R Road in Troy. In addition to various complimentary health screenings (e.g. BMI, audio, visual, asthma, review of immunization records) provided by Henry Ford Health Systems, the events will feature such fitness-related activities as a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a jump rope competition, relay races, and an inflatable obstacle course. Attendees will have opportunities to win prizes and be entered into a drawing for a trip to Disney World.

These events is open to Boys & Girls Club of Troy members, as well as guests and community residents. Those who wish to participate in health screenings must complete and return the consent form, which is available online at bgctroy.org or at the Club’s front desk.


ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The Michigan Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs received funding from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund for “Healthy Michigan Today” a program focused on physical activity, smart food choices and regular health care screenings connecting Boys & Girls Club members and their families with local health care providers. 

The purpose of the Michigan Health Endowment Fund is to benefit the health and wellness of Michigan residents with significant focus on programs for minor children and seniors through the state. Priority areas include infant mortality, wellness and fitness programs, access to healthy food, technology enhancements, health-related transportation needs and foodborne illness prevention.

The Boys & Girls Club of Troy is a non-profit youth development organization that provides educational and recreational activities, in addition to mentoring programs, to more than 1,200 children, aged six to 18, in the tri-county area of metropolitan Detroit. For nearly four decades, the Club's positive environment has enabled members to become responsible, self-reliant, and caring adults.
