Taste of Troy a Huge Success in 2014

March 31, 2014

The 22nd Annual Taste of Troy fundraiser on March 2 was definitely a Garden Party Taste Fest based on the mouth-watering food prepared by Troy’s finest restaurants and food establishments. The fact that Mother Nature dumped a lot of snow on Troy throughout the night before did not deter the partygoers.

The annual food-tasting event offered samplings from 31 area restaurants with Garden Party theme this year, along with guest appearances from Legendary Lions running back Billy Sims (No. 1 draft pick who played for the Lions from 1980 through 1984) and current Lions running back and Boys & Girls Club of Troy supporter Joique Bell, along with emcee and popular WDIV Channel 4 Meteorologist Andrew Humphrey.

Participating restaurants were judged by a panel of food connoisseurs in the Critics’ Choice categories, and attendees voted for their favorites in the People’s Choice categories.

A Restaurant Milestone Award was presented to Orchid Café for 20 years of participation and a Special Recognition Award was presented to PNC Bank for their generous commitment as the 2014 Major Sponsor.

"We want to thank everyone who helped make this year’s event such a huge success,” said Cindy Stewart, Taste of Troy Chairperson. "Our attendance was excellent, and early tallying indicates we did outstanding on the Live and Silent Auctions. Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy an afternoon of fun and great food while supporting a great cause. The crowd loved mingling with Detroit Lions star running backs Billy Sims and Joique Bell. Also special thanks to our emcee WDIV Meteorologist Andrew Humphrey who has supported the Boys & Girls Club of Troy for nine years! Thanks to his hard work, the Live Auction brought in record profits again this year. We also had two very popular caricaturists, Darrell Swift and Bob Bryan, donating their time to add to the fun.”

During the event, attendees sampled food from the following premier restaurant and food establishments, including: Achatz Handmade Pie Company, Beaumont Health System Troy, Billy Sims Barbecue, Brio Tuscan Grill, Café Sushi, Cedar Grille, Crumpets at the Somerset Inn, Edible Arrangements, El Charro, Granite City Food & Brewery, Ingram’s Candies, Just Baked Cupcake Shop, Kona Grill, La Marsa, Maggiano’s Little Italy, McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks, The Melting Pot, Muses Taverna Greek Cuisine, Noodles & Company, Ocean Prime Troy, Orchid Café - Fine Thai Cuisine, Papa Vino’s Italian Kitchen, Priya Indian Cuisine, Ridley’s Bakery Café & Catering, Salsarita’s of Troy, Shield’s of Troy, Smashburger, SY Thai, TGI Friday’s Troy, Tim Hortons Troy, and Tre Monti Ristorante.
